The Scarecrows 1982 till 87..

The Scarecrows were formed in December 1982. Dave Twist (Drums) and Mandy Darlington (vocals), (then his girlfriend) They had both been in a band called The Bible Belt along with myself, this band also consisted of Dave Kusworth. Dave K went on to form a band called The Rag Dolls with what was the other remains of The Bible Belt but with a new Drummer (Carl Bevan). I took some time out to consider my options.

One of the first things Mandy and Dave did was to approached Steve Duffy for some song writing tips, Dave already had the words to The Birdman Of Alcohol but Dave was a drummer, he didn't have a clue how to put a song together and Mandy didn't play anything. Steve recorded a tape with him playing piano to Dave's words. It wasn't till Adrian Shepherd came along, that any real attempts at putting anything together could happen. Finding Duffy's piano too complex, he simplified it. The song ended up nothing like Duffy's original sketch.
