Krzysztof A. Janczak, composer, producer, sound designer, performer, and musicologist, is a laureate of numerous international competitions in classical and film music. He was nominated for the Czech Lion Awards in the Best Music category for the film Even Mice Belong in Heaven, for the prestigious Latvian film award Lielais Kristaps in the Best Music category for the film Jacob, Mimmi and the Talking Dogs, and for the Grand Prix Komeda for the music to the film Sonata. He also won the Grand Prix for Best Music for the film The Pawnshop at the International Music and Film Festival in Marseille.
He has composed music for over 70 films, as well as numerous orchestral, chamber, and piano works performed worldwide. Additionally, he has created musical scores for television networks such as Disney Channel, NBC Universal, ARD, 13th Street, MDR, Kabel Deutschland, and many others.
After completing musicology studies at the University of Warsaw, he moved to Paris as a recipient of scholarships from the French Government and the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Foundation, whose board includes figures such as Daniel Barenboim and Martha Argerich. In Paris, after five years, he graduated in composition and orchestration from the prestigious École Normale de Musique de Paris and the Maurice Ravel Conservatory, studying under Michel Merlet, a student of Olivier Messiaen and Igor Stravinsky. In 2007, he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit by the President of Poland for composing the Symphony of the Warsaw Uprising, a tribute from the younger generation to the youth who fought during World War II.
He honed his craft through numerous masterclasses led by composers such as Howard Shore, Alberto Iglesias, Max Richter, Michael Nyman, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Patrick Doyle, Don Davis, Trevor Morris, Rolfe Kent, Christopher Young, Marc Isham, and Marco Beltrami. In 2013, he was selected from among 4,400 applicants from 137 countries to participate in the Berlinale Talents program.
He is a member of the European Film Academy, the Polish Filmmakers Association, the Union of Polish Musicians, and copyright management organizations such as ZAiKS, GEMA, and STOART. Since 2024, he has been a board member of the Polish Filmmakers Association's Film Music Composers Circle, where he serves as secretary.
Currently, he collaborates with directors and musicians worldwide, creating music for feature films, documentaries, and animated productions. He is also a regular guest at Abbey Road Studios and Rudolfinum, orchestrating and conducting recordings with top soloists and orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra.
