Devo 2.0 (also known as DEV2.O) is a quintet, created for Walt Disney Records (with the participation of Devo), of child actors who sing, dance, and (in their music videos and photo shoots) mime playing instruments along to songs re-recorded by some of the original members of Devo. Jerry Casale directed all nine of the DEV2.O videos. The lyrics to some of the songs they perform have been edited to make them more "family friendly" and remove much of the innuendo and irony typical of Devo songs. In "Through Being Cool", for instance, the line "Eliminate the ninnies and the twits" is changed to "Eliminate the time you waste in cliques", and the innuendo-filled "Girl U Want" is re-written as "Boy U Want" (although the video version of "Girl U Want" keeps nearly all of the original lyrics intact). The song "Beautiful World" remains mostly unchanged until the end, where the words, "It's a beautiful world for you/But not for me" have been changed to, "It's a beautiful world for you/And me too". In "Big Mess" the line "I'm a boy with a gun" became "I'm a girl havin' fun". The theme of "Uncontrollable Urge" changed from sexual anxiety to craving snack foods, and "Jerkin' Back 'N Forth", a techno durge about self-loathing, is now a perky song about dancing.

The project has polarized many Devo fans. Some approve, seeing it as an extension of Devo's subversion of traditional pop music (and thereby "mutating" a whole new generation); others disapprove, feeling that it is insulting, or a sell-out to "clean up" the songs and/or to have children sing them. Some of those who are opposed to the project believe that Disney have appropriated Devo's music without their consent, unaware that some of the original members of the band are directly involved.

A DVD and CD combo was released March 14, 2006. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
