There is more than one artist known as Crea
1.Crea is an R&B singer (real name Lacresia Holbdy) who released an album in 2004, titled Mystory.
2.Crea is a Swedish rock band.
1.Lacresia Holbdy was born in Birmingham, Alabama. As a child, she took violin lessons, but was more drawn to the guitar. "It just felt comfortable like a good pair of shoes." After a friend of the family gave her two quick semi-lessons, Crea was off to the races. Well, actually to her bedroom, where she would compose songscomplete lyrics, melodies and chords with names like "Kiddie Land" and perform for her captive audience of toys. She was nine years old.
"I didn't listen to the pop idols that were out at the time," she recalls. "I was digging through my moms old record crates. I would find the Marvin Gayes, the Quincys and the Stevie Wonders. I was into stuff like Manhattan Transfer, Michael Franks and Steely Dan. There was Phoebe Snow, who influenced me as a guitarist."
Guitar-playing jazz scat vocalists, tortured soul icons, blind wunderkinds, convention-defying rock& roll bands, architects of R&B, folk/rock fusionists, retro-jazz enthusiasts. Crea was educated by them all. When she was 16, Crea joined her first band and began to use music and performance as therapy. Performing eventually led Crea to studio recording, where she was able to showcase her songwriting skills. "Being in the studio helped me grow and find my niche as a writer," she says. Crea would go on to write songs for rapper/actress Queen Latifah, child star Tracie Spencer, Motown artists the Good Girls, and others all the while being hired to sing live background on international tours. "I walked the balance between writing and performing," says Crea.
Crea put together her own demo and soon signed with the Phoenix, Arizona-based independent label, Aezra Records. "Crea is a renaissance woman who writes, plays, performs and produces," says Camille Barbone, Director of Artist Relations for Aezra. "Aezra Records has put together a select team of urban music specialists to support her brand of Sophisticated Soul and get it out there"
The music to get out there begins with "Mystory." Bookended by acoustic-driven confessions and bolstered by reflections of betrayal and running the gamut of emotional highs and lows, giving you music that will make you shake your head in understanding as well as you shake your butt on the dance floor, Crea proves that "Mystory" isnt that much different from your story.
2.Crea is a progressive Linkoping-based (Linkoping is like the 5th or 6th largest cities in Sweden) rock band that has been around since 1988 led by founder-member guitarist and vocalist Peter Gren. According to the bio, Crea has never really been interested in sounding like anything else.
According to me, on this album, they sound like a whole bunch of bands! But in a good way. I find a whole lot of Pink Floyd, Simple Minds and some U2, mixed with maybe Gary Moore and Deep Purple! Sometimes in a mix, sometimes as single songs. But what an gruesome mix!
At the very first listening to the album, I heard a hammond organ with the most flower-power kind of music I ever herad, and I thought, what the hell!??!? Have I been transferred to 1971?
But it was quickly followed by a strong feeling of Pink Floyd and “Dark Side of The Moon”. Heading to track four, “Second thoughts”, I’m feeling that I’m brought back to my high school years with Simple Minds. But with a progressive twist and sometimes, like in the song ” Shattered Vision“, with some rock-opera approach!
To me, it’s an album that shifts a lot in in a whole lot of directions. But if you like music the way I do, you’re in for an adventure! You never know what the next song will be like, and when you are listening to that next song, you will never know how it ends!
If you like this mixture of Pink Floyd, Simple Minds and U2 combined with progressive rock, you will absolutely love this album! I surly do! Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
