Jordan Galland is a filmmaker, writer and musician. Having grown up in New York City, Jordan’s immersion in the local art scene was nearly immediate. He wrote his first original play, F.A.M.I.L.Y., at age thirteen, for which he was a finalist in the Young Playwrights Competition. Musically, Jordan (officially) jumped onto the New York City club circuit at eighteen with his band Dopo Yume. After its formation in 1998, Dopo Yume gained momentum and praise from publications like New York Magazine and fans including Bijou Phillips and longtime friend Sean Lennon thanks to Galland’s eccentric brand of cinematic, Americana-pop.

With Jordan on vocals, guitar and songwriting duties, Dopo Yume went on to tour with Rufus Wainwright, Cibo Matto, Lilly Allen (in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles), Phantom Planet, Adam Green, Rooney and Ween, to name a few. In 2004, Dopo Yume was asked to be Fischerspooner’s backing band for a handful of International dates, leading the four-piece to San Paulo, Brazil and Mexico City.

The band released three full-length albums in their six-year existence, simultaneously catching the attention of producer Mark Ronson, who commissioned Galland for numerous songwriting projects (including a track for the motion picture soundtrack for 21). Ronson also adapted a handful of the songs Jordan wrote for the albums Yumania, True Romance and The Secret Show for a somewhat re-incarnated version of Dopo Yume, the East-Village rock band Domino. With Domino Kirke on vocals (and Galland on guitar), Jordan continued as the band’s creative force, penning tracks for Domino’s self-titled 2005 EP (Allido Records). Galland and Ronson also joined forces on the 2009 release Love & War from Daniel Merriweather - Galland once again on songwriting duties.

Parallel to his work with Ronson and Merriweather, Galland continued to refine the multitude of songs he was writing with plans of a solo-album in place. Beginning with a 5-song session on New Years Eve of 2006, Jordan, on vocals, acoustic guitar, piano and keyboard, worked with friends and former band-mates David Muller (drums, percussion, bass) and Sam Oates (trumpet, flugelhorn) on what would ultimately become his solo debut. Inspired by the likes of Serge Gainsbourg, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie and early Francoise Hardy, the trio recorded twelve tracks over the course of three years, resulting in the 2009 self-released Airbrush. The album sets Galland’s cerebral lyrics to pop melodies that mix horns, dreamy backing vocals and curious homemade beats resulting in a spooky, intimate collection one might expect to find on their most treasured b-side.

Galland also recently completed his debut feature film (as writer and director), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead, starring Jake Hoffman, Devon Aoki and Ralph Macchio, with an original score by Sean Lennon. The film, which also includes a song from Airbrush in its soundtrack, continues to receive critical acclaim and a warm audience response from festivals like Slamdance, AFI Dallas and the Canadian Music Week film festival.

Jordan’s combined passion for filmmaking and songwriting can also be seen in a handful of animated music videos he created to accompany Airbrush, at www.youtube.com/jordangalland. For more information, visit www.jordangalland.com.
