Fedor Chistyakov was born in 1967 in St.Petersburg. In 1985 he formed the group Nol (Null), then a trio of bayan, bass and drums, and recorded the first album. Nol was a punk rock outfit, and its conception coincided with the beginning of perestroika, which gradually made it possible for such music to be played openly. In 1988 they add a guitarist, and in 1988 through 1991 tour USSR, where they become a major indie success, and also appear at festivals and club dates in Chechoslovakia, Finland, Ireland, Germany and France. Gradually the punk component in their music gives way to more folk and prog.

In 1992 he disbands Nol and abandons music all together. In 1996 he comes back with a solo record, and in 1997 reforms Nol (adding balalaika to the lineup), which disbands again in 1998. "Celebration in the Valley" was recorded in November 1997 in a concert in St. Petersburg.

Nol':
Pretty funny combination of folk music (well, sort of) and indie. The band's frontman, Fedor Chistyakov (aka Uncle Fedor) was the first one among rock musicians to use accordeon as the "lead" instrument. Unfortunately, the band was virtually destroyed because of an incident involving Uncle Fedor, which was followed by him being institutionalized for more than 2 years.
