ADRON is the eponymous debut of twenty year-old Adrienne McCann. Inspired by the vintage textures of Brazilian Tropicàlia, Adron plucks her nylon strings with the casual flourish of a maestro twice her age, and compliments the guitar with an array of quirky whistles and mouth-clicks. Her lyrics are precocious and whimsical. They speak to a double-awareness that eludes many songwriters; a sense of self-identity and astute observation that allows her to combine the earnest yearnings of a teenage American girl with the classic melodies and rhythms of another era. Her youthful exuberance and adroit musicianship are distinctive and soothing, and her ability to meld epochs and geography reveals a talent of surprising breadth and maturity. ADRON is a debut that promises a great musical journey to come.

Born in Chicago in 1987, Adron was classically trained on the piano from the age of four. At twelve she taught herself to play guitar by working out Beck songs, and her early influences include Connie Francis and the Beatles. That same year her family moved to Atlanta where she began writing her own material and playing publically. Two years later she was performing at the nationally renowned Eddie’s Attic, learning sitar, and preparing to graduate from high school. After a year at a women’s liberal arts college in southern California she began to pursue music full time, and in the spring of 2006, just months before her 20th birthday, she returned to Atlanta and recorded her debut album. She now resides in Brooklyn. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
