Michele Campanella is an Italian pianist, born in Naples 1947. He studied at the famous school of Vincenzo Vitale in Naples. Elegance, delicacy and power, virtuosity - these are the qualities which make Michele Campanella one of the most highly regarded pianists of the moment. Beneath the natural simplicity of his facial expressions is to be found a strong personality which is constantly engaged an attempt to achieve the highest possible artistic results. His love for "his" instrument is expressed in a constant search for the right timbre and the right colours. At only nineteen he won the "Alfredo Casella" prize. Immediately after this success he began a brilliant concert career which has taken him all around the world to perform in the most prestigious concert halls of the globe - in Vienna, London, St. Petersburg, Chicago, Prague, Berlin, Sydney, and Melbourne. He has played with the most acclaimed symphonic orchestras - the London Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra - and under such important conductors as Abbado, Muti, Sawallish, Pretre, Inbal and Thieleman. Campanella has always been interested in new artistic experiences and in the exploration of all musical forms. He has also dedicated himself to chamber music, working with Salvatore Accardo, Rocco Filippini and Claudio Desderi.
Michele Campanella holds the prestigious chair of pianoforte at the Accademia Chigiana of Siena, a post previously held by Alfredo Casella and Guido Agosti. He is also a member of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. Campanella is engaged in intense recording activity and for this has received the "Gran Prix della Societe Liszt" of Budapest and the "Premio della Critica Italiana". His recent recordings include "L'Album pour les Enfants Adolescents" by Rossini from the collection of pieces for piano "Péchés de Vieillesse", and "Le Sonate" by Domenico Scarletti which was produced by "P&P - Classica" (click here for the Scarlatti cdc 006 CD).
