Fragile Heart is the new EP from Sam Buckingham. A four track affair that starts with Spaghetti Western inspired 'Hit Me With Your Heart' and ends with the simple, harmony heavy, unrequited love song 'Only A Fool'. As for what happens in between, imagine a basement bar, a vintage gown... Or perhaps picture Buckingham as a bittersweet wind up doll or marionette, relaying stories of love lost and letting go.

A fiercely independent, highly regarded troubadour, you may have already caught her touring alongside the likes of Lior, Angus & Julia Stone and Washington, co-hosting Triple J's 'Roots n All' with Ash Grunwald and playing at the National Folk, Blue Mountains Folk and Peats Ridge Festivals. She's also been awarded finalist status in the International Songwriting Competition three times running, scored the coveted Album Of The Week spot on ABC's Radio National and has had her songwriting praised by the likes of Kasey Chambers, Tim Freedman and Bic Runga.

But Fragile Heart is the awakening of a new musical epoch for this Singer/Songwriter come Chanteuse/Producer.

While still writing tracks for the soon to be EP and a forthcoming album, Buckingham sparked the interest of renowned Australian producer Paul McKercher. “Paul and I are a great pair because we had the same vision for how we wanted everything to come out. True to the song, with a lot of heart and no cutting corners. We were in touch for about a year, throwing ideas around, listening to demos, before we even set foot in the studio.”

They recorded thirteen songs over six months at Sydney's infamous 'Albert Studios' with a host of friends and fans joining in to bring each idea to fruition, a time which Buckingham describes as the most beautiful and intense time of her life. “I think the whole process was a huge learning curve for me. I could hear all the songs complete in my head, I could even see what they sounded like.. What colours they had, how they made people feel.. and it was a huge challenge to make those visions a reality. It wasn't that I wanted to do anything complex or out of the ordinary, it was about being 100% true to the heart of each song. It resulted in a lot of energy concentrating, analysing, feeling, and a few tears being shed.”

It was this vision and focus that led McKercher, about five months in, to casually point out to Buckingham that she'd been across every minute detail, every decision made and that they had, in fact, produced the thirteen tracks together.

Fragile Heart will be released through MGM October 2012
