nerBeater, aka Brenden MacDonald, a composer/producer, poet, and philosophy practitioner, was born in 1984 and grew up “across the bay” from a small town on the west coast of Canada; and currently resides in the Vancouver BC area.

An artist and intellect, and an electrified audiophile, he currently manages a dual disability of schizophrenia and chronic pain (partially, but wholeheartedly when it comes to emotions and inner states, via his artistic activity). Brenden is prone to “word salad,” a technical term in psychiatry for free association and linguistic chaos; but he broke through the meaningful meaninglessness of “word salad” to understand the true power behind musical linguistic communication. He finds simultaneous mental release and engagement in working with music and audio that the body in turn loves to stretch and shake around to.

Brenden has been constructing and composing electronic and instrumental music, as well as recording vocals and instrumentals ranging from acoustic punk to hip-hop since 2004. His interests include live sound, studio sound design, field recording, sound FX and production for radio theater, and other aspects of audio engineering. His “hard ambient” music has been influenced by sounds from complex electronic grooves to analog depths, both computer and real drums, both new schools and revivals, and every sound embodied by a heart of wonder, a sense of meaningful tension or resolution, experiments and their glitches, and also radically psychedelic— hopefully as revolutionary— creative forces.

Having graduated from Vancouver Island University with a BA in Philosophy and English in 2009, Brenden writes academic non-fiction (e.g. on Spinoza and Deep Ecology) and free form poetry. He currently records others, collaborating with hip-hop artists, as well as making his own music, and is studying audio engineering.

He currently employs the Ableton Live Suite music production and Wavosaur sample editing software on his aging PC, as well as an Evolution UC-33e midi controller, an Alesis Multimix8 analog/USB Mixer, a Samson Q7 Dynamic Microphone, a Yamaha PSR-262 midi keyboard (for midi out), PureMagnetik.com samples and instruments, along with an Indonesian didgeridoo and African djembe.

Brenden says:

“...Witness art set free • just once • and you could never be bored again.

The universe surrounds us, but nothing like Copernicus wrote. Dreaming is the core of life and structure, and music isn't an economic venture or mindless entertainment: it represents a mode of being with which to commune on some level that even driving down that endless road connecting that endless human commerce, music can fulfill. nerBeater implores that the world never, really never stops the music.

Because the intensity of a work of music is measured in degrees, shades, and flavours of decibel and because you should always eat salad and avoid pop, try a delicious Decibel Salad now.

...all your bass are design by us...”
