The Airmen of Note are the United States Air Force Band, the big-band legacy from Major Glenn Miller, who first established the band over 60 years ago. They serve as "America's International Music Ambassadors", traveling the world over each year to do concerts for military and civilians alike. They also tour periodically within the USA, and have recorded various albums highlighting both jazz standards, especially from the big-band era, as well as arrangements of recent and contemporary jazz. Its membership is a selection of virtuoso musicians, led by Col. Dennis M. Layendecker (Commander and Music Director), Chief Master Seargent Dudley Hinote (Manager) and Senior Master Seargent Joe Jackson (Director). Many band members are accomplished musicians and composers who enjoyed professional careers outside their military service. Five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, a rhythm section (bass, guitar, piano, drums) and a female vocalist make up the large traveling company of musicians, with an accompanying crew of more than a dozen airmen.

Since they are active members of the US Air Force, supported by tax dollars, they do not charge admission for performances, but their music (unfortunately) is unavailable commercially.
