Lu Ann Simms (1933-2003) was born Lu Ann Ciminelli in Rochester, N. Y.

In 1952 she became a regular performing artist on the Arthur Godfrey TV Show on CBS, attaining such celebrity status that Lu Ann Simms dolls became best sellers. However, Godfrey, known for his fikleness and tyrannical escapades, let her go after three years.

Lu Ann Simms and Mike Clifford were contracted to work as recording studio stand-ins for Annette and Frankie during the early 60s taping of the movie Beach Party. In the film, Simms performs a solo of It's If It's Gonna Happen? After The Party.

In 1975, Lu Ann popped up again in a gay-oriented disco album titled Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes, a compilation of novelty dance tunes, which included an ensemble of various flamboyant characters from the New York City club scene.

Lu Ann died of pancreatic cancer on September 21, 2003. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
