Born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Mesquite, Kimberly M'Carver has been singing and dancing since childhood. She was a voice major (classical) in Dallas and at UT Austin, while dancing professionally in fashion shows. She also received a bachelors in Anthropology, and further studies to become a registered veterinary technician.

In Houston, M'Carver fronted cover bands and started writing songs in 1987, performing at songwriter open mic nights. Early musical influences included Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks. During this time, a homemade tape of her songs was sent to Rounder Records (Cambridge, Mass.). It was well-received and followed by Rounder visiting her for a live performance in Houston and offering her a recording contract on the spot.

M'Carver's two Rounder releases, Breathe the Moonlight (1990) and Inherited Road (1994), drew nominations (Best Independent Record, CA) and charted on the new Americana chart. Further nominations included the Houston Press Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year & Best Acoustic/Folk numerous times for over a decade, as well as"critic's pick" for Best Female Vocalist. During this time a compilation of her first two Rounder cds was released as Kimberly M'Carver by Mesa Music International in Taiwan.

In 2001, M'Carver co-produced her third album of original songs, Cross the Danger Line, with Scott Neubert. The album included musicians Aubrey Haynie (Faith Hill), Viktor Krauss (Lyle Lovett), Neubert (Hal Ketchum,Trace Adkins), as well as grammy-winning singer-songwriters Jim Lauderdale and Claire Lynch on harmonies. First released on PrimeCD/FiftyFifty Music, the cd is now on her own label, Kocker Records.

M'Carver's fourth cd (also co-produced with Neubert), Hard Waltz, released 2013, on Kocker Records. She was joined again by Neubert and Lynch, along with John Thomasson (Little Big Town), Eamon McLoughlin (GreenCards), Jeff Taylor (Elvis Costello, Robert Plant), Matthew Wingate (Claire Lynch Band), as well as Steve Holland and longtime bandmate, Eric Korb.

M'Carver's songs have been recorded and featured on numerous albums. Her song Serious Doubt was recorded by grammy winner Jeannie Kendall (The Kendalls) with Allison Moorer. Texas Home was featured in Texas Monthly's, Texas Monthly Guidebook to Texas: Completely Revised Fourth Edition cd, as well as on Texas Highways Magazine's cd Under the Texas Sky, and in the Texas Songwriters compilation cd from the Kerrville Folk Festival (live version). My Way Back Home to You was featured on Introspective Journey, a compilation of 15 female artists on Rounder for J. Jill. Silver-Wheeled Pony is on the Kerrville End of the Century and Alimentar Mi Alma appears on Rounder Records 30th anniversary cd, The Singer-Songwriter Collection, Rounder Heritage.

M'Carver's TV appearances include Texas Music Café, Houston's Weeknight Edition, and other local (PBS) documentary programs. She's toured the US, UK & Europe, and played festivals including Lincoln Center's Outdoor Concert, Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, Houston's International Festival, Glasgow Scotland's Big Country Festival, and Kerrville Folk Festival. Venues include the BlueBird Cafe (Nashville), Anderson Fair, McGonigel's Mucky Duck (Houston), Passim's (Boston), Cactus Cafe (Austin), The Ark (Ann Arbor), Birchmere (D.C.), Iron Horse (Northampton), etc. She has toured with Jim Lauderdale, opened for Guy Clark, Radney Foster, Junior Brown, Karla Bonoff, John Gorka, Johnny Paycheck, Gary P. Nunn, David Allen Coe, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Leo Kottke, Loudon Wainwright, Robert Earl Keen, etc. Read more on Last.fm.
