Starting around age 18, the artist known as Brandon Postman began writing a prolific series of songs. Mostly relegated to his basement for years, they stacked up as incomplete demos.

Eventually, Postman created his band, The Lab Techs , with bassist Ryan Laubenthal and djembe drummer Clayton Harrison. They independently recorded and released their debut album 'Beakers' in 2016, and played shows in Cleveland’s rock venues.

Around this time, Postman began writing Postman Press, a monthly newsletter about that music scene. It was sort of a one-page zine, and an outlet for Postman to talk about his favorite local bands and recent listening.

Then, suddenly, Postman became much more elusive, choosing to combat a depression by returning again to a creative solitude. His demos began to pile up again, without a proper release.

In 2020, facing the Covid-19 pandemic, Postman hosted a virtual open mic night on Zoom, and created a network of musicians around the world.

But after December 2020, Postman’s whereabouts became unknown. Rumors say he drove out into the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, and never came out again. Others say he abandoned his character there, and started over in a new town with a new name.

I have acquired his unmastered demos, and believe he would have wanted you to hear these. So I am sharing all of the basement recordings now, as a testament to this strange and enigmatic, if ignored, musical character. Read more on Last.fm.
