Dog Eyes is an American lo-fi indie pop duo from Oakland, California, formed in 2020. The band consists of singer-songwriter Davis Leach and multi-instrumentalist Haily Firstman. They gained recognition for their intimate songwriting, unique sound, and exploration of themes related to friendship and relationships. Dog Eyes was formed in 2020 after Leach and Firstman met through mutual connections at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Initially bonded by their shared love of two-person songwriting teams, the duo began collaborating on music, leading to the creation of their debut album. In 2022, they released their first album, good, proper send off, which was self-released. This album featured a more stripped-down and simplistic approach, incorporating field recordings, fuzzy radio static, and fragile folk elements. In 2024, Dog Eyes released their sophomore album, holy friend, through Grand Jury Music. This album marked a significant evolution in their sound, characterized by a gentle, layered approach and an exploration of various genres, including ethereal twee, slowcore, indie folk, and bedroom pop.
