KAJ

KAJ are a music and comedy group from Vörå in Ostrobothnia, Finland. The group is part of the Finland-Swedish cultural sphere and primarily performs in Swedish with lyrics in the Vörå dialect. The group consists of Kevin Holmström, Axel Åhman, and Jakob Norrgård, whose first name initials form the band's name.

Blending humour with music, KAJ's style spans various genres, including pop, rock, rap, opera, disco, and schlager. They are also known for their satirical rockabilly alter ego, Vörjeans, which parodies the raggare subculture.

Axel Åhman and Jakob Norrgård first met through football in Vörå and became close friends. Later, Kevin Holmström met Axel at a motocross track in Röukas, Vörå, when he helped push Axel's stalled Suzuki out of the woods. Kevin and Jakob then met at a school disco in Maxmo, brought together by their mutual friendship with Axel. Their shared experiences at school strengthened their bond, leading to the formation of KAJ in 2009.

KAJ released their debut single, "Heimani i Skick," in 2012, followed by their first album, Professionella Pjasalappar, in 2013. The group gained widespread recognition in Finland-Swedish communities with the release of "Jåo nåo e ja jåo YOLO ja nåo" in the summer of 2014. The single received significant radio play across Swedish-speaking stations in Finland, propelling them to fame. Their second album, Lokalproducerat Pjas, was released later that year.

In December 2014, KAJ collaborated with Finland's national broadcaster, Yle, to produce a Christmas calendar programme, which aired online from December 1st to December 24th. The series featured comedic sketches and new musical performances. Around the same time, the group embarked on a nationwide tour, performing in numerous cities, particularly in Swedish-speaking regions.

In the summer of 2015, KAJ released the single "Pa to ta na kako," which became a radio hit. The group continued touring in early 2016, followed by another summer release, "TACO HEJ (feat. GU$TA)." Later that year, they released their third studio album, Kom ti Byin.

KAJ celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2019 with an arena concert, which was televised and later released as a live album, KAJ 10. The group has also produced two musicals at Wasa Teater: Gambämark (2018) and Botnia Paradise (2021).

The group's fourth studio album, "Karar i arbeit," was released in the spring of 2024, preceded by the singles "Firmans man," "Karar i arbeit," and "Dansgolv."

In 2025, KAJ participated in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen with the song Bara Bada Bastu, advancing directly to the final. They ultimately won with 164 points, setting a record for the highest number of votes in the competition’s history, surpassing Loreen's previous record. Their victory marked a historic breakthrough as the first Finland-Swedish band to win Melodifestivalen, and they are set to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.

Their entry will be Sweden’s first Swedish-language Eurovision song since 1998. The song achieved global success, reaching number one in Sweden and Finland and topping Spotify’s global viral 50 chart. Notably, the last Eurovision entry performed in Swedish was Finland's 2012 song När jag blundar by Finland-Swedish singer Pernilla Karlsson. Read more on Last.fm.
