Typekast, or by his real name Tom Reed, is a DJ from Cincinnati, Ohio, US.

Tom Reed began his journey into the world of electronic music when he attended his first underground event in Chicago. He was immediately moved by the music and inspired by the connectivity of sound. Tom rapidly immersed himself in electronic music, researching everything about this newly-found style and its seemingly endless genres by purchasing countless mix tapes and learning the history and origins of dance music.

In 1999, Tom emerged into Cincinnati’s vibrant underground music scene as DJ Centrex. He began by joining his friend’s promotional company, In the Groove Productions. While with In the Groove, Tom toured various cities performing in the U.S. and Canada. During this time he was also featured on the Toronto based radio show, “Technopolis” hosted by Dr. Trance, which has hosted other notable national and international artists such as Chris Liberator, Dave Ralph, and Paul Oakenfold.

As a DJ, Centrex is best known for his Progressive House & Trance sets at the club night FUSE, where his unique style of subtle and forward thinking deep mixes had become his calling card. Through his FUSE appearances and numerous other events, he earned the reputation as a technical DJ.

After taking three years off as a DJ, Centrex is back on the scene as Typekast. Having reinvented himself as a DJ and changing his moniker to Typekast, he is no longer bound to a specific style of music. He can be found playing everything from Minimal, Tech House, House, Dub Step and Techno.
