Jimmy Psycho is a musician, composer, and actor as well as a published artist, model, and photographer.
Best known as the main mind behind the highly successful "horror rawk" band PSYCHO CHARGER and wildly popular "spooky sci-fi punk rock lounge band" THE JIMMY PSYCHO EXPERIMENT, Jimmy spent his youth on a steady diet of horror films, comic books, and old rock n roll while growing up in rural south western Ohio. He recalls plinking around on an old family banjo before he started school, and he received his first guitar at the age of eleven years old and shortly after discovered Elvis, KISS, and then punk rock. He started his first band when he was 12 years old, and has been on the road playing the "Devil's Music" ever since...
That road ultimately led him as the founder of the "Horror Rawkillbilly" band PSYCHO CHARGER. Managing all creative and business aspects of the band, Jimmy lead the band from it's humble beginnings as a one-man project to being a staple in the American horror rock music scene. He has overseen the band through four full-length CDs, appearances on several movie soundtracks and television commercials, as well as a regular string of successful shows across the U.S. and abroad. The band garnered rave reviews and a cult-like following due to their unique sound and outrageous live shows.
In August of 2011, Jimmy moved from his long-time adopted home of NYC to Los Angeles to pursue further ventures into making music for film and special projects. Upon arrival to Los Angeles, Jimmy was quickly brought on to the creative team for the Devil’s Playground Burlesque production company for development of their monthly Burlesque and all-female wrestling shows in Hollywood. Not only a member of the creative team, Jimmy has a recurring onstage role as “Mr. Psycho”, the referee/co-host. The shows have been at capacity crowds since the first performances and have appeared up and down the west coast.
Feeling inspired to try out new musical ideas in Los Angeles, THE JIMMY PSYCHO EXPERIMENT was born. THE JIMMY PSYCHO EXPERIMENT has been described as "the world's only spooky sci-fi punk rock lounge band". The unique sound and showmanship has proven to be wildly successful in a wide variety of settings and has made "The JPX" one of the busiest lounge/tiki bands in Southern California. Originally playing lounge version of horror movie themes, the song list now includes lounge versions of sci-fi, spy, classic rock, and punk rock songs. In addition to the monthly standing gig with the notorious cult Devil's Playground burlesque shows, he has been a staple of the high-profile tiki and punk rock events on the west coast including the Ink N Iron Festival, Tiki Caliente, and Tiki Oasis. THE JIMMY PSYCHO EXPERIMENT quickly caught the eye of ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK who has recruited Jimmy to perform at her live appearances along the west coast, including Stan Lee's Comikaze, The Mid-Summer Scream, Monsterpalooza, and ScareLA. Not just about the music, the live shows themselves now include (when circumstances dictate) costume changes, audio-visual elements, and appearances from the ladies of the Devil's Playground Burlesque. THE JIMMY PSYCHO EXPERIMENT has recently release their sixth full-length release titled, "Love on the Rocks" which consists of 7 tracks of "Hair Metal Power Ballads" all performed in the instrumental lounge style. This release has also proven to be wildly popular and has become the biggest-selling release in the band's history thus far!
In recent years, Jimmy has found himself doing something he has always dreamed of: writing music for films. Jimmy has had the opportunity to write songs exclusively for "2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams", "Chillerama" , "Fractured" and most recently, the title track to the cult hit "Tales of Halloween". He also co-wrote and recorded the song "Three Witches" which is included in the new film "London Fields" which stars Johnny Depp and Billy Bob Thornton.
In early 2016, Jimmy teamed up with The Sithfits clothing company to form the band THE SITHFITS, which unleashed their "Star Wars-meets-Weird Al-meets-Punk Rock" cosplay cover band in Hollywood! As history repeats itself, it has become an incredibly popular act at cosplay events. In 2020, THE SITHFITS released their debut E.P. "Tatooine E.P.", which included the song "C3P0", a parody song set in The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop" that found itself in Dr. Demento's Top Ten for three straight months!
Another project that showcases his incredible musical diversity: THE ABOMINABLE DR. PSYCHO, shows Jimmy performing the best "dark compositions" of classical music on a pipe organ. This idea came about after a viewing of "The Abominable Dr. Phibes", one of his favorite horror films of all time. The debut release "Musica ex Mortuis, Vol. I" was an incredible undertaking to record and has been very well received since it's release in October 2016.
Currently, Jimmy is putting the finishing touches on the fifth full-length release "Return of the Psycho" by Psycho Charger, a collection of ten brand-new songs. Additionally also working on the debut release of his latest project THE INFERNAL ORDER OF THE BLACK FLAME with his long-time friend Thea Munster.
Never one to sit still for long, Jimmy is also working on his first-ever "Hellbilly Americana" solo release which exposes his long-time love of the country/bluegrass, blues, and traditional American music while remaining firmly planted in his punk rock roots. This is the record that Jimmy has been wanting to record for the past several years. Not only playing guitar on a majority of the songs, Jimmy will be showcasing his harmonica, banjo, and cigar box guitar-playing skills as well. Jimmy has already begun performing some the songs from the record live around as a one-man band, as well as with his backing band "The Grand Hole Opry", which include long-time X drummer DJ Bonebrake. This record is currently in production and is slated for a release in 2024.
As always, Jimmy up to something whacky and is overseeing the various releases associated with his musical endeavors as well as other special projects. There's also a new slate of releases scheduled for 2023...stay tuned!!!
