This seven-member ensemble borrows from a wide variety of musical genres, including modern rock, ska, jazz, funk, and reggae. Standing out among the band's many achievements in its 6-year existence is the formation of its own record label, Over the WOL Records, Inc., the vehicle through which 7 Minds has released three of its own CDs. The band has been charted on radio stations across the country and has performed on a number of compilations, television programs and movies. The group is now working overtime, writing material for the next album, promoting the newly released Seaside Tony interactive CD, and capitalizing on the recent national release of the CD, No Time.

The first CD, Over the Wall, is a three song EP released in 1995, featuring the original version of the hit song "Coffee". (This CD was released under the band's old name, AWOL.) The second CD, No Time, is a 12-song full-length record, released initially in late 1997, and is available in stores nationwide. Most recently the band has released Seaside Tony, a 3-song interactive EP featuring the regional hit of the same name. This CD has live video footage of the band on CD-Rom, so you don't want to miss it.

Alt-rock guru Matt Pinfield, formerly of WHTG FM in Asbury Park, NJ, and now with MTV, was the first to play "Coffee" under the band's original name, AWOL. (The name change, undertaken in 1996, was due to a trademark conflict.) WHTG immediately began playing the song on a regular basis, but refused to play other cuts until the band made its music commercially available - too many listeners had been calling the station about where to purchase "Coffee", hence the record company was formed and Over the Wall was released.

In the meantime, "Coffee" landed on Ska: The Third Wave, Vol. 2 (Shanachie) and NYC Disc Makers Best of the Unsigned. The ska compilation made CMJ charts, attracting "Coffee" a widespread college audience through radio airplay. The song then made its way into Warren Miller's Snowriders II, the 1997 release by the premiere film-documentor of winter sport.

As the ski/snowboarding film was undergoing its final edit, 7 Minds' full-length CD was also in the stages of completion. When No Time was released locally in NJ in September of 1997, WHTG began to bolster its support of the band by complimenting Coffee's airplay with other tracks from the CD. This support grew dramatically during the summer of 1998 with the instant success of the song "Seaside Tony", which was recorded, entered rotation, and leapt to the top of the most-requested list (where it remained for several weeks), all in the last 2 days of July. "Coffee", a humorous look at the caffeine addiction which plagues offices everywhere, continues to gain momentum on college and alternative radio across the country. Meanwhile, the latest single, "Seaside Tony", has become a regional hit in the New York/New Jersey area. This song coins a new term for the seasonal invaders from North Jersey and New York who take over the Jersey shore each summer "with their pants too tight and a quart of cologne". 7 Minds made its television debut in 1998 on the New Jersey Network, in Positive Impact Television, a program created by and for at-risk kids and hosted and co-produced by Joe Piscopo. Along with being a featured subject on the show, the band scored the music for the entire program. 7 Minds also appeared on The Uncle Floyd Show on New Jersey's Cablevision network.

The band is now working overtime, writing material for the next album, promoting the newly released Seaside Tony interactive CD, and capitalizing on the recent national release of No Time, which debuted as CMJ's # 20 most added album its first week out. Both CD's continue to receive airplay at WHTG, where "Coffee" is still in regular rotation.

7 Minds regularly performs live at such venues as: the Wetlands, the Lion's Den and the Bitter End in NYC; Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ; the Melody and the Budapest Lounge in New Brunswick, NJ; the Saint, the Stone Pony (until they recently closed), the Smart Bar (formerly the Metro) and Joey Harrison's Surf Club at the Jersey Shore; and the Kyhber Pass and Theater of the Living Arts in Philadelphia, to name a few.
