Alien Knife Fight are a band of bassists, who happen to play other things: Monique Ortiz is best-known for her gritty, soulful vocals and 2-string slide bass, and fretless bass playing. She has released several full-length recordings (many of which are collaborations with members of the band Morphine), and has garnered several nominations for best female vocalist in various Boston-based music polls. Brad Houser (The Dead Kenny G's), mans the 8-string bass and baritone saxophone. Michael Howard a bassist, guitarist, and producer, backs Monique and Brad on drums. Primal, groovy, heavy. No need for guitars here. Alien Knife Fight's sound brings influences of such UK acts as Wire, Joy Division, Siouxsie together with the heavier sounds of Groundhogs, QOTSA, and Trans Am. Not one to write just another love song, Monique prefers to tell stories about the unknown, the paranormal, the metaphysical. Alien Knife Fight are currently working on their debut LP at their home studio in Austin.
