Matt is the son of established jazz bassist Jimmy Garrison. Matt plays both standard electrics and both electric and acoustic uprights, and gigs regularly in funk, jazz, pop and avant-garde circles.

He did established stints with John McLaughlin, Meshell Ndegeocello and Herbie Hancock and has an active recording schedule.
