Garrity was formed in 1997 and the following year released a 13-track indie debut disc titled Carve A Hole In The Mud. This effort garnered the nascent act a nomination for Best New Group at the Canadian Radio Music Awards in '98 for their single Lately. The band found success on such commercial radio stations as CHUM-FM, MIX 99.9 (Toronto), and The Bear (Ottawa). Follow-up singles Gotta Get More and Maybe I Do rounded out a strong first impression for this fresh new band entering the Canadian music scene.

Garrity takes it's name from the hero of the Stephen King novella The Long Walk, whose persistence, drive, dedication and ambition are principles which the band identify with. The members of Garrity are North Easton (lead vocals and guitar), Frank Viciana (lead guitar), Steven McGrath (drums and vocals) and Mike Yelle (bass). Together they create a wonderful group dynamic with moving harmonies while blending rock driven melodies with a keen pop sensibility.

On stage the band's music really comes alive. Their strong acoustic rhythms, harmonies, energetic stage presence and delivery have won them a loyal following. Warm receptions have been received from audiences during opening spots for 54:40, I Mother Earth, Wide Mouth Mason and Big Sugar, as Garrity continues to broaden it's fanbase.
