Formed in late 2007, Lunchbox Hero are a 5-piece pop/rock outfit from Melbourne, Australia.

Lunchbox Hero evolved with a strong awareness to fuse their own individual musical influences. Their distinctive music suggests a varied pool of inspiration, with traces of Oceansize, Bjork, Lamb, and Dave Matthews Band to mention but a few. Finding it hard to pigeonhole, their music evokes a sense of alternative pop with a dash of rock.

Consisting of Zander Thompson on bass, Steve Mitchelmore on drums, Nick Copland on guitar, Hayden Johns on keys and singer Leona Prue, they have supported Melbourne indie band ‘The Young Lovers’, ‘Don’t Mess with the Pony’, David Cosma, ‘Ryan Meeking and the Few’ and have performed extensively throughout each end of the city including places such as The Esplanade Hotel, The Peninsula Lounge, Ding Dong Lounge, Bar 303, Revolver Upstairs and The Empress Hotel.

In August 2008, Lunchbox Hero spent a weekend together at The Base Studio in South Melbourne recording their debut four-track EP. The end result is a diverse selection of songs showcasing the individual talents of the band and the group’s ability to collaborate. The opening track, ‘Of You’ kicks off with ethereal vocals leading into an equally as powerful bass line. This combination of colourful guitar chords, grooving bass, solid drums and soaring vocals continue throughout the EP. ‘What I Already Knew’ takes a step back from the rock feel of the opening track and dives straight into a laid back, catchy pop tune with Katie Noonan-esque vocal harmonies and bluesy guitar lines. ‘Run’ displays the band’s love of melodic rock with a galloping feel, reminiscent of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’. The closing track, ‘To The Floor’ is a more melodic journey beginning with finger picked guitar and a ballad-like chord progression eventually leading to Leona’s haunting, multi-layered vocals in the bridge.

2009 marks the next exciting phase for Lunchbox Hero having just released their debut EP, they are very excited to be performing again. Stay tuned! Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
