There were a couple of state-sponsored variety orchestras in Soviet Georgia. Georgian State Variety Orchestra “Rero” was without a doubt the most popular and long-lived of all. It was created in 1956, directed by Konstantin Pevzner and later by Givi Gachechiladze and then Amiran Ebralidze. Orchestra’s main function was to accompany the pop / variety singers, so this collective of 30 musicians made only a few independent recordings: 2 LPs and a couple of singles, mostly issued in the second half of the 70s.
