Félix Alduén Caballery (1926-2003) was a singer, drummer, composer, ensemble director and artisan born in Puerto Rico. He was the most important contemporary exponent of Bomba Mayagüezana. Alduén learned bomba from barrel artisan Demetrio Franceschini at 11 years old. A big part of his musical journey happened in New York City in the 1960s playing bomba and plena under a few ensembles. When he returned to the island, he formed his own ensemble Félix Alduén y Sus Muchachos. Although know throughout the years for his performances at cultural events, his music was recorded for the first time by the virtuoso trombonist William Cepeda in 2002. In this recording, which was titled Candela, the legacy of bomba mayagüezana was preserved covering the güembé, holandé and leró styles.
