Brand New Unit are a tight aggressive punk rock unit that have come blowing out of Vancouver (That's in Canada, eh?)like a Trans-Siberian cold front. Jinx, Ben, Gary and Gabe have been kicking about the past few years getting their chops together and getting stronger with each consecutive project they release. But now the boys have a new disc entitled Diddley Squat on Creativeman with enough kick to kill a cowboy at the Calgary Stampede.

While BNU has drawn a slew of comparisons to Canuck-punk counterparts SNFU, Jinx (guitar), Ben (bass), Gary (vox), and Gabe (drums) also list punk stalwarts like Bad Brains & Minor Threat as major influences, on Diddley Squat BNU pays homage to their heroes as well as putting themselves in league with posi-core heavyweights like Seaweed & Dag Nasty, especially on tracks like "So Proud Of You" and "Live To See Another Day".

As a group the tunes are powerful but BNU are also blessed with some of the best musicians in the business. It's no wonder that Gabe (drums) names Stewart Copeland & The Police as a major influence. Brand New Unit features one of the tightest rhythm sections north of the equator. And if that weren't enough, Jinx rivals Fletcher of Pennywise with a guitar skinning technique he likes to call "solos" plus a vocalist who sounds more like Kevin Seconds than Kevin does. But what else is there to do in The Great White North except watch SCTV and practice, practice, practice?

After conquering their hometown of Vancouver getting good press in local fanzines like Discorder and all the local weeklies due to their sweaty live performances and lots of radio airplay. BNU are now ready to spread their madness down in the Lower 48. With their youthful exuberance and coffee-fueled tunes, not to mention an 11 song ripper on Creativeman called Diddley Squat it seems it will only be a matter of time until kids will be painting Brand New Unit on their leather jackets.
