On The Offshore – You Have Not, You’ve Never Been
„A wild mix, beautiful and unusual“ is how German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung describes their music. Indeed, On The Offshore inhabit a territory located somewhere between a nightclub around midnight and an afternoon of classic songwritng, integrating elements of jazz, electronic music and pop in order to create an alternative-dance style which is very much their own.
That the five musicians Lucy Pereira (vocals), Girisha Fernando (bass), Bennie Rademann (guitar), Kilian Bühler (drums) and Deniz Khan (sampler) not only have a masterful command of their instruments but also of of the mechanics of modern club and pop music is evident. Interaction is homogeneous and intuitive, seamlessly woven with the traditions of jazz, as is evident in their music’s intricate harmonic patterns.
Without getting bogged down in an experimental jungle, well-worn paths are, with playful virtuosity, deftly abandoned to discover unexplored musical paths. The direction is the right one and any deviations are welcome. Catchy melodies that sound fresh and original are coupled with enigmatic lyrics full of emotion. Lucy’s vocals give the songs that extra dose of character so essential in making a band truly unique, creating an unmistakably singular sound both live on stage as in the studio.
On The Offshore have been working in this constellation since 2006 in the southern German City of Augsburg. Now after three years and numerous mini-tours, the band is ready to take the next step. To the delight of many fans, September 2009 sees the long-awaited release of their debut album „You Have Not, You’ve never Been“ (Label:Loop Department / Distrbution: Neo/ SONY).
