The Proposition offer a uniquely English take on acoustic-Americana, with instantly hummable modern folk songs that explore dark stories through the prettiest of tunes, all driven by stirringly energetic performance.

Exploring musical territories which share borders with the USA’s Avett Brothers and Felice Brothers, and even the UK’s Mumford & Sons, The Proposition provide a thrillingly elemental roots music experience which is arguably ‘in the tradition’ but very much its own animal.

But pigeonholing The Proposition’s music is tricky. It’s acoustic folk(ish). It’s Americana, with country and bluegrass flavours, but it’s also clearly English. It’s acoustic, yet the band kicks up a famously big sound (especially considering there’s only three of them). It’s certainly highly energized, enormously engaging and rewards repeated listening, just as much as the first time. The Proposition’s songs always pass the ‘try whistling this’ test with flying colours.

To prove their point they've gigged across the UK, with more and more festivals under their belts, and they’ve even played as far afield as San Francisco (or, if you happen to live in San Francisco, as far afield as Kilburn).

They recently slowed down for long enough to record new songs with Seasick Steve’s erstwhile producer Nick Brine.
