Cogburn & Dougherty was a southern rock duo from the late 70s who had originated in Jacksonville, Florida. Originally childhood friends, Dorman Cogburn and Jimmy Dougherty got their start in music when they were signed to Mercury records in 1978, and subsequently released the album titled Contraband for the band Alias, alongside Billy Powell (piano and organ), JoJo Billingsley (vocals), Tim Ingles (bass), and Artimus Pyle (battery). In the early 2000s Dorman Cogburn (vocals) and Jimmy Dougherty (guitar and vocals) reunited alongside Stuart Ott (keyboards and slide guitar), Rick Bernheimer (bass), Ed Richardson (bass), and Scott Edelman (drums) to create the band Beat Poets.
