America Lyrics

Small town got too small,
So you take enough
Drop that beautiful,
Act like you didn't know
Sun a little brighter,
Friends a little higher
Do you lose your acts and change your head?
Life a little larger,
Does every play a little harder?
Anybody tell you that you got it, got it, got it?

Did you make it in America?
Find yourself a fortune?
Santa Monica, turning up the volume
Did you make it in America?
Do they all adore you?
But if I'm afar can you hear me cheering for you?
Go, go, go, go on!
Go, go, go, go on!

Is a big town big enough,
For just a teenage crush?
Do you still have that part
Does it search and never stop?
Sun a little brighter,
Friends a little higher
Do you lose your acts and change your head?
Life a little larger,
Does every play a little harder?
Anybody tell you that you got it, got it, got it?

Did you make it in America?
Find yourself a fortune?
In Santa Monica, turning up the volume
Did you make it in America?
Do they all adore you?
But if I'm afar can you hear me cheering for you?
Go, go, go, go on!
Go, go, go, go on!

When I think about you, about you
Nothing couldn't stop you, stop you
Go, go, go, go on!
When I think about you, about you
Nothing couldn't stop you, stop you

Did you make it in America?
Find yourself a fortune?
In Santa Monica, turning up the volume
Did you make it in America?
Do they all adore you?
But if I'm afar can you hear me cheering for you?
Go, go, go, go on!

When I think about you, about you
Nothing couldn't stop you, stop you
Go, go, go, go on!
When I think about you, about you
Nothing couldn't stop you, stop you

Marlon Roudette was born in London and is the son of Cameron McVey, a British music producer, and Vonnie Roudette, a designer and artist from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. He's also the stepson of Neneh Cherry according to her Wikipedia page. As a young child he moved with his mother and sister to St. Vincent, where he began his music career, and returned to London when he was 18. He was a member of R&B / Hip Hop act Mattafix. The New Age Songfacts reports that their single "Big City Life" was an international hit topping the charts in Austria, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Poland and Switzerland. However the band lost their record deal and they were forced to break up meaning Roudette had to go solo. Read more on Last.fm.
