A three-piece formed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1985, thrift bakery combined pop and rap in a way that was completely unconventional at the time. Now, seemingly everybody's doing it. So tb has continued to refine its sound, branching more into pop, rock and jangle while adding a fourth permanent member. Rapmaster D. Luxx is the frontman and main lyricist, sketching vivid tales of people adrift in a land of lost promise. Bassist Terrie Cloth, synthesizer/saxophone/guitar player Bob Hair and guitarist/synth player Tater Totts round out the ensemble. They released an LP, "Freshness Test," on now-defunct Hopewell Records, and have self-published four CDs: "Tender Moments," "Mediocre Criminals," "Transcendent" and, most recently, "Hard and Sweet."
