Math Records '(((R' was born in the Old Town neighborhood of Albuquerque, New Mexico in the late winter of 1999 with the release of merdur side b. This collection of songs and pseudo-songs deemed “eclectic” (alibi, March 1999) shocked listeners with guttural rocking chair music and disturbingly intriguing interludes describing the plight of the “small pueblos” and the carrying of the “cantalones” on heads.

Though critically well received, the album was not a commercial success and (((R was unable to deal with mounting pressures of both the collapsing economic markets as well as the “sonic bubble” of its own recordings. After taking time to regroup, the small company emerged again in the spring of 2004 in Austin, Texas (by tunnel) with the release of merdur_plot—an exhausting 18 song adventure into a unique land where folks work inside robots, eat at restaurants that do not serve food, and frolic under yellow rain. In the meantime, the development of live acts such as The Essays and The Holy Fucking Shits brought the distinctive (((R sound to the earless masses.

In late 2004, (((R released the fan-club-only merdur_rough draft which Cantalones magazine deemed “a work in progress” (Cnts, vol II (V), 2004). The album produced the early 2005 single, The Sun. A dark tale about a young journalist and the loss of his clean underwear (not a metaphor), the single became a summer anthem for the “troops”.

Meanwhile (((R’s premier recording artist, merdur, began work on an ambitious project titled “scene”. The story unfolds in the dark underground of Austin’s Hyde Park—where regular Sunday mornings become desperate scenes of crime and unearthly forebodings—and presumably innocent women find themselves trapped inside industrial-grade restaurant freezers. The “scene, though seemingly evil and depressing realizes in the listener both a spiritual awakening as well as the chance to reinforce doors and “keep things inside”. Scene went on to top many charts (using a unique, helium packaging) and was named Best Unbest album of 2005 by Garth Brooks and Dunn donut shop (Pflugerville, TX).

The time spanning 2006 to late July 2008 was a period of both growth and stagflation for (((R. Tracks of land were purchased, under semi-honest means. Wells were drilled and lives forever changed. Though the financial assets of (((R were well vested, accruing annual dividends in the upper percentages, the company’s sole recording artist, merdur (the John Mayer contract was sold to Hitachi), was busy pinning the metaphorical tails on the metaphorical donkeys (not a metaphor). Finally after much prodding, the eclectic band finished both merdur_er and "The Cattlemen’s Club" in one long drunken hot tub, trans-fat lubricated bender (don’t ask)—releasing both albums in late July of oh-eight.
