Tokyo-based Aiha Higurashi started out in New York with her band Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her back in 1992. The band were together for 10 years, playing an eclectic, cool, scuzzy guitar sound similar to Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Pavement, and Sonic Youth and achieved international success touring with bands like Mogwai, Yo La Tengo, and Modest Mouse. Seagull's fan base continues to grow despite the fact that the band has broken up.

In 2004, her first solo album, Born Beautiful was released, followed by Platonic with collaborations with Cornelius and Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto) in 2005. A third acoustic-based album, Perfect Days was released in Japan in 2009.

Aiha performs in Japanese and English. Something of an art punk, she is sometimes called Japan's PJ Harvey.
