Leaving Araby rose out of the ashes of two bands when Chad McIlvenna and Justin Reynolds decided to get together and work on a song, later titled "Armistice is a Dirty Word." Two men later they were four and formed officially in August of 2005 by vocalist Chad McIlvenna, guitarist/vocalist (and and later lead singer) Justin Reynolds, bassist (and later guitarist) Derek Amos, and drummer Zach Neal.

Chad McIlvenna departed in August of 2007, while Derek Amos switched from bass to guitar and bassist Nate Haddon joined the band.

After "Armistice is a Dirty Word," Leaving Araby set out to write and record their debut EP, Slightly South of Scene.
They recorded and produced their first album, Slightly South of Scene, with Patrick Rives, the veteran studio owner of The Odyssey Studio.

Leaving Araby has shared the stage with bands such as Kids in the Way, Fireflight, Wavorly, High Flight Society, The Less, and Love Takes Flight and has been featured on stations and podcasts including Radio U, Effect Radio and the Bored-Again Christian Podcast as well as being featured in CCM's October 2007 edition of "Artful Independence."

They describe their musical sound as, "a well tempered blender containing gooey musical goodness!"

Leaving Araby say their musical influence is accredited to such artists like, The Beatles, U2, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Jimmy Eat World, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, The Killers, Snow Patrol, and Matt Pond PA.

The band resides in Athens, Georgia in the United States of America.
