The Dirty Diamond is the brain child of Sam Babayan. After breaking away from the Los Angeles Based Slow Motion Reign, Sam began his exploration of song writing. Sam's journey through music began with the guitar. He learned albums of his favorite artists by ear and played them while facing a mirror to channel the spirits of his idols (These being the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Black Crowes, and Eric Clapton). When Sam joined Slow Motion Reign, then called iO (translates to Armenian as "Yes"), he met his musical counterpart in Narek Pogosyan. Narek and Sam started the project and eventually, under Slow Motion Reign, got signed on to Serjical Strike, the record of System of a Down singer Serj Tankian. Following extensive touring worldwide, they decided to break paths and go each their own way. So Sam started looking for the next jewel, his Dirty Diamond.
