Brian Cullman grew up in New York City with a radio glued to his ear and a passport tight in his fist. Over the years, that radio has gotten larger as the world has grown smaller, and he has been a frequent explorer of the world’s hidden musics , from Iran to Senegal, from Morocco to Trinidad. He has been on the fringe of many of the more interesting music scenes in New York and London and Paris. As a kid, he opened for Nick Drake at Cousins; sang backgrounds with Sandy Denny & Linda Thompson & Heather Wood in London; recorded with Mark Knopfler, Robert Quine, Vernon Reid and John Scofield; produced Lucinda Williams; wrote for Antaeus, Rolling Stone, Spin, The Village Voice, etc; produced the soundtrach to the 2008 film GYPSY CARAVAN; scored Sundance grand prize winning movie PADRE NUESTRO (now released as SANGRE DE MI SANGRE); and still owns the NO SMOKING sign that Andy Warhol pulled off of the wall at the RISD museum, signed & gave to him. His first album, ALL FIRES THE FIRE, features lovely help from Ollabelle and from Barry Reynolds and was released on SUNNYSIDE RECORDS (god bless them and all who sail with them!) in 2009....
