Jasmina Machina currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany, is one half of the experimental electronic duo Minit and composes sound for installation and film. She composed, recorded and produced her first solo album, "The Demolition Series", at home. Guest musicians appear on the album; Torben Tilly (guitar), Jimmy Trash (melodica), Ari Benjamin Meyers (piano), Anthony Pieretti (drums) and Lucinda Dayhew (voice).

Binding the overpass between hesitation and intoxication, ephemera and the sublime, Jasmina Maschina’s (Berlin, Germany) folk soundscapes transport you to her unique world of song. Her music glows with the pains and pleasures of human experience, imagining every part of human triviality to be unique and vital in its own subordinate way. It is the gorgeousness of the everyday.

She melds the most simple and innocent chord progressions of time-honoured folk music with a noisenik’s attraction to repetition, drone and inventiveness. Lyrically, Jasmina Maschina lists the characters of the familiar and places them in the warm care of her imagination. The vocals convey a childlike curiosity at the normal wonders of the world, the joy of just being lucky enough to feel sensation and experience.

In terms of sonic touchstones, Jasmina’s sound is a series of wonderful contrasts. Her words mingle the cutting, world-weary poetics of Leonard Cohen with the open, vulnerable dialogue of Nick Drake. Her voice joins the frozen, detached tone of Broadcast’s Trish Keenan with Cat Power’s emotional openness. The music finds its foundation in the minimalist folk of early Dylan and The Velvet Underground’s 3rd album, while its subtle electronic touches and atmospheres recall Steve Reich, Terry Riley, and Brian Eno. More than the sum of these parts, though, Jasmina is taking her own road, creating a very assured debut that shows an emerging artist quite comfortable in her own skin. Read more on Last.fm.
