There are two known artists under the name Mermaid In A Manhole:

1. Mermaid In A Manhole was a cyber/gore/noise project from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. Started sometime in the late 1990s by Steve Embryo - who also was behind projects like Gynophagia, Gruesome Toilet, Sewercunt and who ran the D.I.Y. label, Kinetic Sleaze Productions. MIAM was known to often feature different collaborating artists, give each of the releases a distinctly unique sound from one another. 2. Mermaid In A Manhole was formed in 2004 by four ex-members of the Oval Portrait and vocalist Ryan Nardi (ex-When All is Lost and Dreadknock). Mermaid's musical credo is part doom, part black metal, part hardcore, and a whole lot of LSD, blended together to create a noticibly unique sound. Their music crescendoes to heavy and crashing; balanced with melodic riffs creates a unique guitar sound. Top that off with Nardi's grating, haunting vocals, and you have the illustrious Mermaid in a Manhole. In the past two years the band has released a short demo and a 6-song EP titled "Flesh Drapes The Spire".
