Burn Barrel is based on the collaboration between Gaunt and Haynes Boys member Jovan Karcic and transplanted New Yorker J.P. Olsen, who demoed some of their songs, which were based on stories Olsen had written on as a police and prison reporter, with a four-track recorder. After the demos created a strong buzz among Columbus musicians, the duo expanded to a full band to record Reviled! which also features guests like Scrawl vocalist Marcy Mays and keyboardist and Afghan Whigs associate Derek DiCenzo.
