He was born in Uşak in the year 1979. Starting to take his first music lessons from his father and his brothers as from the age of six, he started to learn the bağlama. During his high school education, while playing the bağlama on a good level, the kabak kemanes which his father made attracted his interest and he decided to go on with the kabakkemane for the rest of his music life. In 1997 by qualifying to attend the Aegean University Government Turkish Music Conservatory, the professional period of his music life has started. In the same year, he started to serve as a kabak kemane artist at T.R.T İzmir Radio. During the years of his Conservatory education, he accompanied folk-dances with his kabak kemane, he worked with important soloists of T.R.T İzmir Radio.

Özgür Çelik who served at many dance and music festivals inside and outside of Turkey, obtained the firstplace in the competition of folk music instruments held in Poland in 2000. In the same years, he started to accompany the albums of folk music artists like Hüseyin Turan, Kubat, Onur Şan, Makbule Kaya with his kabakkemane. Starting from the year 2001, Özgür Çelik who has continued his music life with "Mecaz", made the album work “Yalelli” with the same band. In 2007 in the "14.Halıcı Competition of Composition via Computer”, he was deemed worthy of “Best Performance” prize with the solo he made with his kabak kemane.

Çelik who has been serving as a lecturer at the Aegean University Government Turkish Music Conservatory since 2002, carries on making music with the new instruments which his father made such as tarbağ, cüudi, basname and kabak kemane.
