Nectar Gang is a rap group from Catete, Rio de Janeiro, formed by Bk’, JXNV$, CHS, and Bril. The group’s first song was released on August 11, 2013 by Café Crime, titled “Nectatenu.” From there came “Inverno no KTT” and the web video “Esquinas em Guerra.” On April 15, 2015, they released their first mixtape, “Seguimos na Sombra.”
The Beginning:
They lived on the same street, but their contact was far from what it would become. Over time, they began attending cultural gatherings, and Bk’ met CHS rapping at the Botafogo Cultural Circle. They became friends and things started to flow. Soon, CHS had a broader vision and began organizing an MC Battle in Lapa, with Bk’ helping with filming and photography. Bril was part of a skate crew that supported the Battle with clothing, etc., but he didn’t rap — he started rapping under Bk’s influence — since they were the ones most inclined toward music and already had aspirations to be artists. Things changed, and they started hanging out, freestyling together. Later, they decided to take seriously what had just been freestyle fun: it was time to record.
Nectar Gang took its first steps at Café Crime, where they met JXNV$, who was already a beatmaker for the label. They received a beat from Sain, and upon arriving at Café Crime’s studio, they were given more beats by Ramiro Mart, Goribeatzz, and Iky Castilho. From then on, the recordings began to take shape, resulting in singles like “Nectatenu” and “Esquinas em Guerra.”
Seguimos na Sombra, Castelos & Ruínas and Pirâmide Perdida
Seguimos na Sombra: At the end of 2013, they began turning utopia into reality, kicking off projects with the mixtape “Seguimos na Sombra.” With 16 tracks, the project featured appearances from Pedro Qualy and Sain, with production by JXNV$, Goribeatzz, El Lif Beatz, Iky Castilho, and Sain. It was officially released on April 15, 2015.
Castelos & Ruínas:
As with any group, there’s always an artist who wants to express themselves more freely outside the team. The need to explore a different creative outlet is no longer unusual. Bk’ felt that need first, releasing his debut album “Castelos & Ruínas” in 2016. With 13 tracks, it featured Ashira Wolf and Luccas Carlos, and was produced by El Lif Beatz and JXNV$, under the Pirâmide Perdida label.
Pirâmide Perdida Records:
Aiming for maximum independence, Pirâmide Perdida was founded in 2015 by Sain, Akira Presidente, and El Lif Beatz, bringing along longtime friends Nectar Gang and Luccas Carlos. To mark their first anniversary, they recorded a 10-track mixtape featuring all members, “Pirâmide Perdida Vol. 7,” with production by El Lif Beatz and JXNV$.
Fun Facts:
The group’s first beat came from Sain. There was a snack bar on a corner in Catete called “Big Nectar,” where they used to go to buy rolling papers. Since they hung out there so often, they decided to adopt the name Nectar for their crew.
Nectar Gang has been around for a while, but not always as a musical group. Before officially adopting the name, it referred to the crew who hung out together, reflecting their lifestyle.
Notes:
