The producer/dancehall/hip-hop artist Blu Lyon, born Austin Lyons Jr. in Brooklyn’s Kings County Hospital grew up the only child between Austin “Super Blue” Lyons, a well renowned Soca artist of the Caribbean, and Gail Copeland. After partly growing up on St. Marks avenue in Brooklyn, his grandmother took him to Trinidad & Tobago to live with her due to his father not being around and the strain of single parenthood on his mother. In Trinidad he was very influenced by how important music was to life there and started to feel the affect it also had on him. Soon he was writing songs and finding himself in situations that would later become topics for them. After experiencing the good, bad, and ugly side of Trinidad Blu returned to New York to finish his education. With his West Indian accent and personality it was a challenge fitting back into the New York state of mind but not impossible. While exploring the possibilities of a life in music, he began playing with the idea of starting a recording company named KILLA SOUNDS ENTERTANIMENT. “I started making beats in high school with fruity loops and was planning to produce and rap. The plan was to have my friends Royal A.K.A Rollin’ 20 and Edwin A.K.A. Seize be my first artists on the label.” The success of the plan seemed to be a strong reality, but R20 was not as enthusiastic about the situation and had his own plans. He is now a full fledged member of QSC, a group which he has long been affiliated with. Seize now named “Lz” however stuck around. When he graduated from high school he began attending Queensborough Community College for a degree in music electronic technology. While there Blu started a search for more artists to be a part of his team and was introduced to Jimmy Hayze, who used to battle rap with Lz. He then met with Tarique, another student at Queensborough who was also equally interested in becoming involved in the music industry on many different levels. In 2005 Blu and Tarique in conjunction with King and Queen Productions worked on a dancehall project called the ‘ER Riddim’ featuring Jamaican stars such as Mr. Easy, Mega Banton and Merciless. Unfortunately, the project suffered due to lack of proper promotion and differences in business operations with King & Queen Productions. They soon after linked up with members of BEATMAINA PRODUCTIONS and have been recording at their studios ever since. It is there Blu began work with his team to complete installments on a series of mixtapes to be titled “KILLA SOUNDS F.M.”. The first mixtape of the K.S.F.M. series will be available this spring and is titled ‘Super Blue’s Bastard Son’, making reference to the non existent relationship he has with his famous father. He is currently planning to release a number of projects this year, with that being the first. His songs “They Keep Calling” and “Last Call” from the project are currently receiving plays on numerous internet and college radio stations. An album from him is also being worked on and is near completion.
