OF THE OPERA is Robert Bock and Matthew Tenney. The two met in Chicago in 2007 after simultaneously taking a stab at the midwest's DIY music scene for the early half of the decade. In subsequent years, they steadily refined their DIY ethos that brought them together and found themselves doing so while splitting their time between Cape Cod, Chicago, Boston, and New York City. In late 2010, the duo made Brooklyn their permanent home and have seen OF THE OPERA evolve from a studio project recorded in Bock's grandmother's Chicago apartment building to a shadowy rock band entrenched in the underbelly of a notoriously gritty New York City music scene.

After spending much of their beginning fighting to be dropped from a floundering record label, the two took matters into their own hands when it came time to release two new singles in 2012. Finally free from the restraints of their former label, they were once again able to adhere to their tireless DIY work ethic that brought them together years ago. As the musical landscape shifted, so too did the sounds being created in the various studios and cities OF THE OPERA has called home. By borrowing elements from the new wave and industrial movements, OF THE OPERA combines driving guitars with electronic music that is complemented by Bock’s story-telling lyricism and inherently pop vocals.
