Born out of a failed initial attempt to run a record label (known as Hero No.7 Recordings), the four Heroes of the metropolis decided to turn their energies to making beats. A self-released 12" of funky cut'n'paste madness, coupled with a cheeky mash-up eventually surfaced, entitled 'There Ain't No Party Like A Hero Party' EP. Plays from the likes of John Peel, Annie Nightingale and Steve Lamacq (Radio 1), coupled with Japanese record buyers snapping up as many copies as we could send them, made them feel rather happy with themseves. One of the tracks, Cut Up Party Tune 101, was then used on a Japanese mix CD - Spin Out 3 by Mansfield.

The Sheffield-based 7 Hills Records liked the EP enough to get in touch, which lead to the release of the 7" single 'Keeping It Real?' b/w 'Besomebody', in 2002. After receiving more support from some of the world's top club djs (Coldcut, Mr Scruff, Andy Smith, Ollie Teeba, ....) and the inclusion of 'Keeping It Real?' on The Herbaliser's 'FabricLive 26' mix CD, the Heroes returned with their latest release, 'The Right Side Of The Tracks' on their own Hero Records label.
