Jessi Frey is an industrial rock and dark synthpop artist from Helsinki, Finland and Bristol, UK. Originally known as the front woman of the Finnish industrial metal band Velcra, Jessi Frey combined the hard with the soft in both her vocals and her songwriting. Her vocals were praised for effortlessly flipping between powerful screams and soft melodies.

Velcra was signed to Virgin Records after releasing just one demo. All of their three albums entered the Finnish charts and the band was nominated as the best newcomer in the “Finnish Grammy’s”. Velcra toured across Europe with bands such as Guano Apes, OOMPH! and Suburban Tribe, before disbanding at the end of 2008.

Following Velcra's disbandment, Frey moved to Bristol, UK and put her musical career on hiatus. However, 2019 marked her return with 'Villainess', her debut solo album written, programmed, and produced entirely by herself. Moving away from metal and towards dark 80’s inspired synth pop, she stated that Depeche Mode’s “Violator” and Nine Inch Nails' “Pretty Hate Machine” were her biggest influences, as well as drawing inspiration from contemporaries such as Grimes and the dark synth scene. In her native country Finland, the album went #7 on the official physical album sales charts.

Villainess was followed up in 2022 with her second album "Warrior" and a return to industrial rock. Written during the pandemic, it takes inspiration from "classic industrial sounds as well as the contemporary vibes of the cyberpunk and darksynth scenes". The album was well received, with the single Bloodsport featuring prominently on Spotify's Industrial playlist for over two years.
