Dark Avenue
“Season Change” - the aptly titled first release and first song from Dark Avenue, is the very reason there is Dark Avenue. Formed by five Dallas/Ft. Worth scene veterans, change is what was in mind; a change from the norm. Barry L., Andrew, Barry T., Mario, and Jeff felt it was time to change what was the ho-hum, soulless music they were surround by, both on stages and on the radio. It was time to change things up and make themselves be the trendsetters. Dark Avenue was now set upon it’s path and mission.
Immediately upon the first writing sessions it was clear that the varied influences, but yet common thread between everyone was yielding the sound, tone, musical/mental imagery and feel that they so desired Dark Avenue to have. A demo of the song Seasons Change was recorded literally hours after its conception, and solidified the whole concept behind Dark Avenue. With bold timing, thick, powerful rhythms and most of all, emotionally charged and melodically performed vocals, it was now clear Dark Avenue wasn't going to be your average hard rock/alt. metal band. They are so much more, exactly like what had been envisioned.
The demo of “Seasons Change” was distributed and submitted for various opportunities of which one was the Texas Rockfest during the South By Southwest (SXSW) music festival, in which Dark Avenue was chosen to perform. But a ripple effect was already happening, the “Seasons Change” demo had landed into the hands of music blogger Jordan Buford writing for The Music Enthusiast and saying “The cohesive rhythm section gives the music an almost haunting quality, while the driven guitar hooks and vocals are where the more melodic elements come into play, offering a nice balance. They’re certainly a little different from your average metal band, which should prove good for the band’s long-term career.” This is exactly how Dark Avenue wants it - “different” from everyone else.
