Bring Me Some Water Lyrics

Tonight I feel so weak
But all in love is fair
I turn the other cheek
And I feel the slap and the sting of the foul night air
And I know you're only human
And I haven't got talking room
But tonight while I'm making excuses
Some other woman is making love to you
Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see I'm burning alive?
Can't you see my baby's got another lover?
I don't know how I'm gonna survive
Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see it's out of control?
Baby's got my heart and my baby's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Devil, the sweet Devil's got my soul
When will this aching pass?
When will this night be through?
I want to hear the breaking glass
I only feel the steel of the red hot truth
And I'd do anything to get it out of my mind
I need some insanity, that temporary kind
Tell me how will I ever be the same?
When I know that woman is whispering your name
Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see I'm burning alive?
Can't you see my baby's got another lover?
And I don't know how I'm gonna survive
Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see it's out of control?
Baby's got my heart and my baby's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Devil, the sweet Devil's got my soul
Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see I'm burning alive?
Can't you see my baby's got another lover
And I don't know how I'm gonna survive
Somebody bring me some water
Can't you see it's out of control?
Baby's got my heart and my baby's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Devil, the sweet Devil's got my soul
Baby's got my heart and my baby's got my mind
But tonight the sweet Devil, the sweet Devil's got my soul

In 1993, Etheridge won her first Grammy award for her single, Ain't It Heavy, from her 3rd album Never Enough. Later that year, she released what would become her breakthrough album, Yes I Am. The album featured the mainstream rock hits I'm the Only One (#8) and Come to My Window (#25), the latter which scored Etheridge her second Grammy award. Yes I Am peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200, and spent 138 weeks on the chart, earning a RIAA certification of 6x Platinum, her largest to date.

Later that year, Etheridge released her first compilation album, Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled. The album was a huge success, peaking at #14 on the Billboard 200, and going Gold immediately. Her latest release is 4th Street Feeling.
Etheridge is known for her mixture of "confessional lyrics, pop-based folk-rock, and raspy, smoky vocals." She has also been an iconic gay and lesbian activist since her public coming out in January 1993. Read more on Last.fm.
