One of the freshest and most exciting voices on the New York jazz scene, Kevin Farrell remains one of the east coast’s best kept secrets. Although Kevin is a widely in-demand musician whose acoustic and electric bass playing has graced bandstands all over the world, he has still managed to produce an enormous amount of music as a composer and a bandleader. Recent commissions have included pieces for The Edinburgh Arts Festival, The Blue Rose Trio, members of Transitions Dance Company, and The Ahmanson Foundation. On his most recent recording, FourTrio (arsenic free records) Kevin deftly weaves the complex atonal languages of Webern and Boulez with visceral free improvised professions honed from years of experience performing with luminaries such as Wadada Leo Smith, Vinny Golia and Bennie Maupin. Kevin’s recent investigations offer new hypotheses to musical problems that have demanded resolve.
