Tomislav Goluban & Little Pigeon’s ForHill Blues is an acoustic project that was formed in December of 2001 out of Tomislav Goluban’s (Little Pigeon) desire to revive Croatia’s country/delta blues roots. Although in the beginning strictly acoustic instruments were used, the possibilities of electrification added a new dimension into this still primarily “acoustic” trio. The group is today made up of three musicians, all from Zabok, which is located in the heart of Croatia’s Zagorje and therefore the group’s name is a translated word play taken from Tomy’s last name (Goluban - Pigeon) and the region fom which they come. Behind them is one studio recorded album (Pigeon’s Flight, 2005) and an abundance of concerts.
Repertoar of Little Pigeon’s ForHill Blues is based on country blues, zydeco, ragtime, gospel but it uses as well rhythms of classic rock and funk in combination with zagorski’s ethno elements. In three words, cheerful, positive and original.
HISTORY
The primary duo made up of Ante Prgin (acoustic guitar) & Tomislav Goluban (harps) lasted a year under the name AP/LP Low Voltage. The group’s new name (Little Pigoen’s ForHill Blues) came about due to the complicated pronounciation of the old name. Nikola Herceg (bass guitar) musically diversified Little Pigeon’s ForHill Blues at the end of 2002.
This band played together for 4 years, they recorded “Pigeon’s Flight”, 2 video spots, performed at countless international Jazz & Blues festivals and opened for legends such as Bill Wyman, LA Jones & Guy Davis. The new chapter was opened at the beginning of 2006, when the trio was joined by guitar player Krunoslav Dobričević “Krumpa”.
The foundation of the band has occasionally been strengthened with varios musicians: Nikola Santro, Ivica Vrdoljak, Dalibor Moštak, Tomislav Novak, Goran Cetinić “Koća“, Kukuljica Ivo “Kukac“, Pjer Žardin, Žan Jakopač, Tomislav Jurina, Dražen Mišerić “Mungos”, Ivica Kostelić, Ivica Dajak are just some of the few who with their unforgettable faces and talent contributed to the Pigeons quality and originality.
The founder and lead singer of the band is Zagorje’s harmonica player Tomislav Goluban. Tomislav took home 4th place at the “World Harmonica Festival 2005“ in Germany’s town of Trossingen, having competed against 18 participants in the category of Solo Diatonic Blues/Rock/Folk/Country, and with that as the only Croatian representative confirmed his quality and talent. Germany’s web-site specifically designed for the harmonica – Harp Online, in 2004 pronounced Tomi “Little Pigeon“ as the player with the most relentless stage performace ever, and in Croatia in 2005 he was nominated for the “Zlatna koogla” (Golden globe) in the best instrumentalist of the year category.
