Gus McKay, started out playing in a Country Punk band in the 80’s but always had a thing for the blues. He didn’t know at the time it would take him around the country or have his music played all over the world!!

Gus McKay farmed wheat for 20 years on a plot near Pithara in WA. But while Gus was farming he was also writing songs and playing when he could. He dreamt of beating a path through the bush down to the city to record his own songs on an album. Eventually the dream was realised on "All About Flight" (1999) and now Gus regularly journeys away from the farm with his music.

Since then he has recorded three solo/band albums and an ABC produced CD. His musical ambitions have lead him down a road filled with the sounds of bottleneck dobro, funky Stratocaster, Battered Epiphone magic, howling hohner harmonicas, and the popping of a cranked Fender telecaster, into a world of fresh country Delta blues, garage or “shed Blues”and of course dare we forget Rock !! to the more urbane grit of Chicago blues.

Artists such as Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins, Freddy King, Little Walter and 70’s icons such as Tony Joe White, JJ Cale have fanned the flame of desire, and his love of the blues, and nurtured his songwriting and performing soul, to the present day.

Yes… blues be his callin’ and listeners from around the world have referenced his music as,“Cool better than old School” , ‘’Straight forward simple, and good ” , “Uncomplicated and real “ Or a “Great Bluesy sound ”. One listener asked the question, “ Where have you been !! ”

Now he’s back… currently performing material from his latest CD “Roadrunner Blues” plus covers. Playing harp and a galvanised “Galvo” resonator guitar and stomp. The new year brings on new challenges, and a new album is scheduled for recording in March, with festivals in Perth and Melbourne to follow.

Yeah… Blues be his calling.
